We offer a perfect opportunity for people who either plan to work in
this field to obtain experience, improve their existing skills, or
those who simply want to experience a unique and inspiring world as a
primate carer.
The rescue of primates, their rehabilitation
and resocialisation is a complex and time consuming business and it can
only be accomplished with the cooperation of many.
Therefore, as with most NGOs who are working
with animals and/or for animal protection, the help of volunteers is
vital for the running of organisation.
About the Sanctuary
This project is run by a non-profit organisation situated near Girona
in Spain. The organisations' goal is to rescue, rehabilitate and
socially integrate primates that have been illegally captured or bred
in captivity and used for commercial and personal purposes and are
living in inadequate conditions. Furthermore they endeavor to educate
and inform regarding the mistreatment these animals are enduring,
aiming to invoke the necessary respect for them within human society.
Not included:
Flights, acomodation or transport to and from airport, personal travel insurance for the duration of
your placement (must include cover for repatriation), food drinks and
snacks, excursions.

- Preparation and scattering of primates food
- Design, preparation and application of enrichment projects
- Dormitory/enclosure cleaning and maintenance
- Construction and maintenance of sanctuary facilities and equipment
- Conducting and/or assisting with educational sanctuary visits
- Carrying out observations of the chimps/macaques behavior
We also take into account individual skills and talents to match them
with daily tasks, although volunteers are required to help wherever
most needed during a working day.
Various tasks, especially feeding, will bring you in close proximity with the chimpanzees.
NOTE: Actual physical contact with the chimpanzees is strictly
forbidden as these animals can be very dangerous and we encourage them
to search social contact from each other instead of from the primate
care staff. It is important to us that volunteers respect these rules
as well as the chimpanzees’ need to interact with each other instead of
humans.
