Typically, an ACA has more direct
contact with the animals than anyone else in the organisation, as they
carry out the very important aspects of animal care on a daily basis -
including cleaning, feeding, handling and exercise. Although this
position is sometimes viewed as "the first step of the ladder to a
career working with animals", (and this
is reflected in the salary!), it is an extremely important and
rewarding position and chances of promotion are good for someone who
works hard and shows commitment and compassion for the animals in their
care.
The animals in the care of an organisation, are highly
dependent upon the ACA; having a competent and caring person
