Basic principles of first aid
Understanding and assessing the essential functions of the body
Guidelines regarding UK first aid legislation; understanding what treatment is permitted under the Veterinary Surgeon's Act.
Vital signs and dealing with an injured animal
Understanding the handling, restraint and carrying of animals in pain or distress
Recognising and treating shock
Treating bleeding and collapse
Recognising and stabilising fractures in preparation for transporting to the veterinary surgery.

Treating an injury Part 1
Understand how to deal with common injuries including: poisons and stings, eye injuries, bite injuries, cuts & grazes, broken bones & dislocations, convulsions, fainting, heatstroke, burns, choking, drowning and electric shock.

Understand how to deal with a foreign body in mouth, eye or throat
Learn more about emergency techniques such as resuscitation and CPR
Understand how to clean wounds and apply bandages and dressings
