Module 1
Module 2
First Aid Principles
Basic principles of wildlife first aid
Understanding and assessing the essential functions of the body
How to assess when to intervene
Guidelines regarding UK first aid legislation; understanding what treatment is permitted under the Veterinary Surgeon's  Act.
Vital signs and dealing with an injured animal
Understanding the handling, restraint and carrying of wildlife in pain or distress
Recognising common wildlife injuries and treating shock, bleeding & collapse
Recognising and stabilising fractures in preparation for transporting to the veterinary surgery.
Special requirements for  injured  hibernating animals
Module 3 Module 4
Treating an injury
Understand how to deal with common injuries including: poisons and stings, eye injuries, bite injuries, cuts & grazes, broken bones & dislocations, convulsions, fainting, heatstroke, burns, choking, drowning and electric shock.
Understand how to deal with a foreign body in mouth, eye or throat
Learn more about emergency techniques such as resuscitation and CPR
Understand how to clean wounds and apply bandages and dressings

Health & hygiene
Recognising signs of ill health and disease.
Learn about animal diseases (viral, bacterial, fungal, parasitic, hereditary & those caused by environmental factors). Crucially, learn how to prevent the spread of infections and diseases in a rescue/rehabilitation clinic or hospital.

The basics - what your first aid kit should contain
Learn how to improvise items such as muzzles, stretchers and splints

Wildlife Care and Rescue Centres
Where to take injured wildlife.
Recovery, rehabilitation and safe release back into the wild
Learn more about the role that UK wildlife rescue organisations and charities play in the rescue and rehabilitation of injured wildlife and who to contact for advice and help.
