GAWF provides Greek animal protection societies with project funding, expert assistance, training and practical help, including assistance with neutering campaigns. Skiathos Dog Shelter, Greece exists to provide temporary shelter, medical assistance and re-homing. Contact to volunteer. Argos Animal Welfare Society, Greece was formed in 1996 by animal lovers who decided to unite their forces to ease the suffering of the thousands of stray animals in Thessaloniki and suburbs. The organisation works to rescue, care for and neuter animals and relies on volunteer help – contact to assist. Coalition in Defense of Animals in Greece (CIDAG) This coalition of Greek and Foreign animal welfare/rights groups was launched in June 2002 with the objective to lobby the Greek Government, EU politicians and MEP's to solve the problem of the ever-increasing stray dog and cat population in Greece by: implementing a nation-wide spay, neuter, release and identification program; an educational program on responsible pet ownership; enforcing existing animal protection laws. Cretan Animal Welfare Group, Greece works to assist animals in need and plans to start tackling the causes of animal suffering by applying resources into campaigning, humane education and law enforcement. Earth Sea & Sky, Greece funded and built the Sea Turtle & Wildlife Information Centre at Gerakas - the only one on the island - to encourage visitors to take a closer look at the rich heritage, natural beauty, wildlife and culture of Zakynthos, to assist animals and to promote the need for sustainable tourism. Volunteer help required. IRELAND Irish Whale and Dolphin Group is dedicated to the conservation and better understanding of whales, dolphins and porpoise in Irish waters. Volunteers required to record sightings of whales and dolphins. Rainbow Rehoming Centre, Northern Ireland is a shelter for dogs and cats, kittens and pups that have been abandoned or are stray. The organisation provides a valuable and caring service for animal and animal lovers across the North West region of Ireland. Contact to assist with voluntary work. Wildlife Northern Ireland exists to assist wildlife in need in Northern Ireland. Volunteers required and training is provided. The Assisi Animal Sanctuary, Ireland Assisi Animal Sanctuary was founded in 1995 to provide rescue and long term care for abused, neglected and abandoned small domestic animals. At any given time the Sanctuary is home to at least 100 animals including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs. A few cats and dogs are permanent residents, all other animals await new homes.
