Their aim is to help stray, abandoned or abused cats along with those whose owners are no longer in a position to keep them. Drifters Reach is not intended to be a permanent sanctuary, but is aimed at providing a safe and caring environment for the cats while they are assessed and found a good permanent new home. Contact to help as a volunteer. Dolphin Care UK works to stop the needless killing of dolphins. They require volunteers to assist with dolphin spotting. The Dogs Trust was founded in 1891, and formerly known as the NCDL. The organisation has always campaigned on dog-welfare related issues to ensure a safe and happy future for our four-legged friends. They have numerous sites around the country and volunteers are required. The Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home is Edinburgh’s oldest Animal Welfare organisation, founded in 1883 by some citizens whose love of dogs motivated them to take action to alleviate the plight of strays roaming the streets of the city at that time. The organisation rescues, cares for and re-homes animals in need. Contact to assist as a volunteer. Faith Animal Rescue provides a rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing service for abandoned, ill-treated and unwanted animals. The organisation cares for them in social accommodation, wherever possible with communal exercise areas. Contact to volunteer. The Great Dane Adoption Society Since 2000, over 700 dogs have been helped to find new, loving homes by the society which has over 600 members and over 200 home checkers and drivers. On average the Society homes between 12-15 dogs per month. They require volunteer help with fostering, home checking and transport. Folly Wildlife Rescue has thousands of injured, orphaned or sick animals and birds admitted annually to their centre where they receive expert care and veterinary treatment. Most have been the victims of human activity. They specialise in the hand-rearing of mammals and birds and many are eventually returned to the wild. Their education programme, conducted through leaflets and talks, aims to reduce the number of incidents occurring. Contact to assist as a volunteer. Fen Bank Greyhound Sanctuary , Lincolnshire takes in Greyhounds of all ages from all over the United Kingdom, provides refuge and re-homes them. Contact to assist as a volunteer. Greyhound Compassion UK Greyhounds are exploited around the world for racing and coursing. At least 40 000 greyhounds are bred annually in Great Britain & Ireland to supply Europe. It is estimated that at least 20 000 are killed and 10 000 “retire” each year from racing at an average age of 2.5 yrs in the British Isles. Rescued greyhounds make wonderful pets and Greyhound Compassion operates a re-homing initiative from Devon, South West England. To assist with volunteering, see their website. Green Fields Rescue work to rescue and re-home rabbits and guinea pigs and state that “we are not here to judge people who bring their animals into our rescue or re-home animals from our rescue. Gables Farm Dogs’ and Cats’ Home, Cornwall founded in 1907, the organisation now looks after some 2,000 cats and dogs every year. They enforce a strict non-euthanasia policy and are committed to providing the best environment possible. Volunteers needed.
