Diet, Foods and Influence on Health

This module is all about building on the learning gained in Module 1 so that you can explain why specific nutrient components must be included in the diet.

It continues with consideration of how the diet will influence a dog’s overall health as well as investigating specific instances where a modified diet might be required.

This course has the aim of providing a primer for the understanding of nutrients, how the nutrients are used in the dog and, the biological nature of the dog. Module 1 covers the digestive system of the dog that generally can be said to be similar to any other mammal apart from ruminants (cows, sheep etc.) The first module continues with the major food groups are, their nature and structure. The final part of Module 1 covers the function or job of each nutrient group and certain specific nutrients within a given group. Module 2 is all about building on the learning gained in Module 1 so that you can explain why specific nutrient components must be included in the diet. Module 2 continues with consideration of how the diet will influence a dog’s overall health as well as investigating specific instances where a modified diet might be required. This primer course finishes with an investigation into the commercial dog food world. What do the manufacturers claim for their product? Are the products worth the money? How accurate is their labelling of ingredients?
