Course Funding

Please note that we do accept course payment via instalments - if necessary, payments can be made as and when you can afford them. However, should you require further funding assistance, we suggest you contact your local Job Centre who may be able to assist you. Alternatively, here are a few weblinks to organisations that may be able to help.

James Marshall Foundation
The James Marshall Foundation will consider making a grant to residents of Wheathampstead and Harpenden who are under 25, where costs involved in education, training or work opportunities are beyond their resources or those of their family.

Sir Walter St. John's Educational Charity

Applicants for student grants must be under 25 and permanently resident in the Boroughs of Wandsworth or Lambeth. They must also have been living in the area for at least six months.

Disabled Students' Allowances
There are special funds and allowances available for students with disabilities. The main source of financial assistance is a Disabled Students' Allowance, (DSA) available from your Local Authority (LA).

Help with learning costs: an introduction
You could get financial help towards the costs of your course, and related costs like travel and childcare. The help you can get will depend on a range of factors - including your personal circumstances and the course you're doing.

Professional and Career Development Loans: what are they?
A Professional and Career Development Loan could help you pay for learning that enhances your job skills or career prospects. It’s a bank loan, so you’ll have to pay it back once you’ve left your course. However, you don’t pay interest for the period when you’re in learning.

Aged 16-25 and not in education, training or work (or working less than 16 hours a week)
Among other things, a Princes Trust Development Award can be used to:

    * buy clothes for a job interview or new job
    * cover fees for a training course
    * fund childcare costs to help you attend a college course
    * buy equipment, materials or tools
    * pay for travel costs to a work placement, training course or job

A-Z funding sources
If you’ve heard of a specific funding source, you can look it up in our A to Z. Each funding scheme has a link to more information, usually to Directgov’s funding section.

Funding further study
Securing funding is one of the main hurdles graduates face when it comes to postgraduate study, but is by no means insurmountable. As well as public funding bodies, there are other funding sources waiting for you to uncover.

Funding in Wales

Redundancy Action Scheme (ReAct)
for people living in Wales faced with redundancy

Proact
provides training for employees who are on short time working, and helps companies retain skilled staff who may otherwise be made redundant.
