Sea Mammal Research Unit (SMRU) is one of the foremost research institutions carrying out research about marine mammals in the world. The mission of the SMRU is to carry out fundamental research into the biology of upper trophic level predators in the oceans and, through this, to provide support to the Natural Environment Research Council so that it can carry out its statutory duty to advise the UK government. They have offices in Argentina, Australia, Germany, the UK and the USA, as well as a world-wide network of field projects and consultants. Jobs are advertised. The Center is an operational entity with programs funded by grants from private foundations and governments. Useful Marine related Links African Association of Zoos and Aquaria (PAAZAB) The association upholds modern zoo best practice in the provision of supportive environments for the animals, personnel and public; active involvement in the maintenance of biodiversity; management for the wider benefit of the community and the provision of education opportunities for learning about animals and their environments. British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLA) trains over 400 volunteer Marine Mammal Medics a year and have 20 whale rescue pontoons located at strategic points throughout the UK, waiting to help stranded whales and dolphins. This is a voluntary organisation Cetacean Research & Rescue Unit (CRRU) is affiliated with the UK Marine Animal Rescue Coalition (MARC) and proves specialist training in marine mammal rescue for an elite team of professionals, the CRRU operates the only full-time whale and dolphin emergency rescue operation in Scotland. The fully trained team of cetologists and veterinarians are on standby 24 hours a day, throughout the year, with specialist rescue equipment, medical diagnostics and supplies to assist whales and dolphins in trouble. International Marine Trainers Association (IMATA) was founded to foster communication, professionalism, and cooperation among those who serve marine mammal science through training, public display, research, husbandry, conservation, and education. Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration has been rescuing stranded marine mammals for over 25 years, and is a founding member of the Northeast Regional Stranding Network. The network consists of independent organisations dedicated to caring for sick and injured animals, and to learning more about the reasons that they come ashore. Marine Animal Rescue Society contains career and volunteer information about marine animal rescue. Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) funds world-class science in universities and our own research centres that increases knowledge and understanding of the natural world. They are tackling the 21st century's major environmental issues such as climate change, biodiversity and natural hazards. They lead in providing independent research and training in the environmental sciences. South East Asian Zoos Association (SEAZA) has a mission that their member zoos utilise their animal collections for the primary purposes of educating the public by imparting messages on the urgent need for environmental conservation in a manner that upholds the respect and dignity of the wild animal. Universities Federation for Animal Welfare (UFAW) is a unique scientific and technical animal welfare organisation. They use scientific knowledge and established expertise to improve the welfare of animals kept as pets, in zoos, and on farms and of wild animals with which we interact.
