Born Free Foundation
is an international wildlife charity working with compassion to prevent
cruelty, alleviate suffering and encourage everyone to treat all
individual animals with respect. Born Free believes wildlife belongs in
the wild and is dedicated to the conservation of rare species in their
natural habitat, and the phasing out of traditional zoos. They don’t
offer volunteer roles directly on their conservation projects. However,
they ask for assistance with general office duties in their UK office
as well as with their Zoo check project. A part of their site acts as a
notice board for other conservation/animal jobs voluntary vacancies.
Brooke Hospital for Animals
helps millions of working horses, donkeys and mules and the countless
people who depend upon them. Brooke operates in Egypt, India, Jordan
and Pakistan, and in Afghanistan, Kenya and Guatemala and aims to
deliver a unique blend of direct and very practical veterinary and
welfare services through a network of mobile teams and field clinics.
With more than 500 staff working in the field, the Brooke is by far the
largest charity of its kind. Brooke asks volunteers to assist with any
one of its 23 supporter groups around the UK. The groups organise
fundraising events, etc. They also request help at their offices in
London and the Netherlands with communications, finance, IT, etc. They
only request that professionally trained vets volunteer directly with
the animals.
Cheetah Conservation Fund Worldwide (CCF)
aims to be an internationally recognised centre of excellence in
research and education on cheetahs and their eco-systems. CCF works to:
create and manage long-term conservation strategies, develop and
improve livestock management practices, eliminate the need for ranchers
to kill cheetah, conduct conservation education programs for local
villagers, ranchers and school children and continue intensive
scientific research in cheetah genetics, biology and species survival.
CCF has operations in the UK, Namibia, USA, Canada, Kenya, Holland,
Japan and South Africa. CCF has programs for general volunteers
(working guests), student internships (including Masters & Ph.D.
students) and zookeepers. All their volunteer programs require a
mandatory donation. However, discounted/subsidized fees are available
for student interns and zookeepers, and also for Namibian, South
African and Kenyan citizens.
Enkosini Wildlife Sanctuary
has offices in South Africa and the USA. The Sanctuary encompasses over
10,000 acres and strives to preserve natural habitat while
reintroducing indigenous wildlife onto land they once naturally roamed.
Enkosini provides sanctuary and protection for a myriad of African
wildlife, many of which would be destroyed if adequate habitat and
facilities for their rehabilitation were not available. Volunteers are
encouraged to for a minimum of 3 weeks; duties include a variety of
tasks in the wildlife sanctuary.
Eleaid Endangered Asian Elephant Conservation Charity
The EleAid Trustees and management met while visiting an elephant
conservation project in Thailand. They were all deeply moved by their
experiences and resolved to work together to increase awareness of the
plight of Asia's elephants and to help save the Asian elephant both
from extinction and from the appalling conditions in which some of the
domesticated elephants live. Contact to assist as a volunteer.
