Centre for Animal Rehabilitation and Education (CARE) is situated in Phalaborwa in the
Northern Province of South Africa, bordering the greater Kruger Park area. CARE
operates as a rehabilitation centre for injured indigenous wildlife. Volunteers assist in the running of the Centre and in the rehabilitation programme.

Campaign against Canned Hunting Sadly, some lions are bred in captivity simply to become living targets for so called ‘hunters’ who pay large fees to shoot a trophy. Border Collie Rescue, South Africa works to assist and re-home Border Collies and to educate the public about the breed. They need volunteer help with fundraising and fostering.

The Animal Trust Organisation, South Africa runs a virtual adoption centre which has an overview of homeless animals from various animal welfare organisations. The organisation goes to underprivileged areas to educate and aid families in taking care of their animals. The organisation recommends organisations that need volunteer help.

Lion Monitoring, South Africa this reserve is based in the Limpopo Province and covers over 30,000 hectares of African wilderness. It is home to elusive elephants, white rhino and various antelope species. Voluntary assistance in actively monitoring a lion pride is vital for the future development and success of this Project. The main focus of the program is to monitor behaviour patterns, movement and the impact on prey and predator species that the reintroduced lions have on the reserve. This is a chance for volunteers to learn skills such as tracking collared lions using radio telemetry, navigation techniques, using a GPS, animal identification and gain an awareness of the fauna and flora in the area. The results of this research will allow reserve managers to make well-informed decisions about how to manage and sustain the animals in the game reserve.

Big Cat Rescue has a vision of no more big cats in cages. This non profit educational sanctuary, is devoted to rescuing and providing a permanent home for wild cats who have been abused, abandoned, bred to be pets, retired from performing acts, or saved from being slaughtered for fur coats, They aim to educate the public about these animals and the issues facing them in captivity and in the wild. The sanctuary houses the most diverse population of exotic cats in the world, with 16 of the 35 species of wild cat represented among the approximately 150 residents. These include tigers, lions, leopards, cougars, bobcats, lynx, ocelots, caracals and others, many of whom are threatened, endangered, or now extinct in the wild. Volunteers assist with a variety of animal jobs.
