South African White Shark Research Institute is dedicated to the conservation of the
world’s greatest predator and the preservation of it’s environment. The organisation
collects data on the white shark and assists in management programmes for the ensured
survival of the species. As it is not possible to ensure survival of a hated species, they aim to change negative public attitude towards sharks through awareness and education. The organisation requests that volunteers first complete a 14 day student educational programme as offered by them before volunteering to assist the projects.

The Lion Park, South Africa is based near Johannesburg and cares for indigenous lion species, including the rare white lion. It is also home to many of the other animals that make South Africa one of the wildlife jewels of the world. Volunteering for this project means working directly with wild with lions, giraffes and cheetah cubs. Volunteers help with daily animal jobs such as feeding, cleaning and exercising the animals.

Wildlife Training in South Africa Internship this is a rare opportunity for volunteers to experience bush life while gaining a detailed understanding of their surroundings. Based in the Selati and the Karongwe game reserve situated to the west of Phalaborwa. The basic training course is perfect for those who want to break into a career in eco-tourism, or simply for people who want to really get to grips with the South African environment. All programs are accredited by the Field Guides Association of Southern Africa. The training course is hands on and will allow you to have close encounters with African wildlife in their natural surroundings. You may sleep out in the bush, learn shooting and tracking skills and learn how to conduct a game drive.

The Centre For Rehabilitation Of Wildlife (CROW) is situated in Yellowwood Park, Durban, South Africa. It is a wildlife hospital that cares for the injured and orphaned wild animals and birds and is considered to be one of the leading rehabilitation centres in South Africa. The organisation is committed to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of orphaned and injured wildlife, and believes in action and education with regard to the protection of all natural resources. CROW aims to be independent, pioneering in the protection and rehabilitation of orphaned and injured wildlife, while promoting the preservation of their natural habitat. CROW have a very active volunteer program and are delighted to welcome local and international volunteers. They have a volunteer house that accommodates up to 8 volunteers at a time, and costs R160 per person per day (inclusive of meals). CROW has over 300 animals in its care at any one time – ranging from birds to monkeys and reptiles and requires help with rescues, nursing, feeding and releases.

Spotted Hyaena Research, Zimbabwe the rapid decline of populations outside conservation areas due to persecution and habitat loss makes hyaenas increasingly dependent on the continued existence of protected areas. As Hwange National Park holds around 20% of the hyaena population of the country in one protected area, it is a very important stronghold for the species. This organisation welcomes volunteers.
