Sondela Wildlife Animal Centre, Limpopo offers volunteer opportunities for candidates
who complete any of their game capture course. Staying on afterwards as a volunteer
entitles you to a 15 % reduction in your course fees. The Game Capture School is the
first comprehensive school in South Africa offering courses that focus on the theoretical and practical aspects of all forms of wildlife conservation and education.Supporting the education and practice of wildlife handling and care, their courses are aimed at minimising animal stress and mortalities. The School offers six courses in African wildlife conservation and management. Courses enable candidates to: work in their wildlife hospital, learn about conservation medicine, learn humane methods of capture and translocation of game, learn to dart wild animals from a helicopter. Vervet Monkey Rehabilitation Centre, South Africa the sanctuary operates the biggest rehabilitation centre for monkeys in South Africa, currently caring for over 650 monkeys. Working directly with a world-renowned primatologist, you will primarily be looking after indigenous vervet monkeys. Although vervets in South Africa are not endangered they do face a rough time; negative feeling towards the animals is high and they are perceived by many as vermin. Volunteers are very hands on with the animals and must expect to get bitten, scratched and even urinated on! You must be prepared to help with maintenance and do hard manual tasks. Volunteers will need to be able to work in a team and must love working outdoors.

Dolphin Conservation in South Africa founded by a leading whale and dolphin specialist, the centre aims to further knowledge of the Western Indian Ocean and in particular coastal and marine animals in South Africa. Working at a specialist centre, you could assist with vital research to preserve and protect dolphins, whales, sharks, seals and seabirds. Volunteers assist with research activities at the centre, including collecting data on land and at sea; transferring raw data on to information systems; and data analysis. Volunteers may carry out work with dolphin and whale skeletons, or assist with strandings of marine mammals and the rescue of coastal birds.

The Cedarberg Wilderness conservation project aims to provide people with a sanctuary where they can experience the African wild as well as helping to preserve and enhance the area by gradually introducing game. Volunteer activities include clearing trails, landscaping and land maintenance, planting crops, small building projects, general camp maintenance and even camp management. There are a variety of activities that allow keen conservationists of all levels the enjoyment of working and learning in the natural environment.

African Elephants, Cameroon this elephant project is in an area very rich with all kinds of African wildlife, but there is a constant conflict between conservation interests and illegal destruction of wildlife and vegetation. Volunteers help in ongoing projects in elephant
research or wildlife monitoring and will experience first hand the reality of operating a
conservation project in tropical Africa. You will be involved in specific activities related to
ongoing projects in research, habitat and wildlife monitoring or in other activities
according your qualifications.
