The Madagascar Fauna Group (MFG) is an international consortium of zoos and related organizations that pool their talents and resources to work together in one of the world's most endangered places. Madagascar is legendary for its levels of biodiversity and endemism but unfortunately, the island is now home to fragmented populations, burned forests, vast stretches of unpalatable grasslands, people struggling to survive, and rivers of red topsoil. The MFG offers volunteers the opportunity to serve as Voluntary Rangers at Parc Ivoloina, assisting in the upkeep, monitoring and patrolling of the park – a full job description is available on their website.West Africa Rainforest Network (WARN) was established to help build international awareness and support for the protection of forests and forest peoples in West Africa. Working in solidarity with local groups, WARN mobilises financial and technical resources to help build the capacity of local organizations and forest communities committed to the defense and sustainable management of their forest. The organisation provides international support to West African community-based organisations protecting the rainforests in which they live. Volunteers can assist in a variety of ways. Taita Discovery Centre run by Tsavo Conservation Trust works to help the elephants of the Taru Desert who are arguably the most vulnerable elephant population (to poaching) in East Africa. They achieve their mission through their environmental education centre, promoting land conservation and through the funding and implementation of infrastructural improvements. Their website contains information on their volunteer programme. African Conservation Experience exists to: give volunteers the opportunity to experience conservation work in Southern Africa and to provide financial support and information exchange for conservation projects in Southern Africa. They offer a variety of voluntary animal jobs and opportunities throughout Africa ranging from dolphin research, game capture and wildlife veterinary work. Rare and Endangered Species Trust (REST) works to initiate and support the scientific and practical study of rare and endangered species in Namibia and to help develop and facilitate solutions to community, national and international problems with these species. Contact directly for information about their animal jobs volunteer programme. Wildlife Action Group Malawi works in nature conservation and management in Malawi and has influence towards a positive trend in the management of Malawi's dwindling flora and fauna by initiating a new approach in Forest- and Wildlife management.
