South African Guide Dogs Association is based in Johannesburg, South Africa. They require volunteers to assist with puppy socialising and fostering. Amara Conservation aims to conserve, protect and restore viable ecosystems in Africa, and to provide conservation education to African communities. They believe that conservation and education are seamlessly intertwined, and that to achieve sustainable results with the preservation of the vast ecosystems of Kenya & East Africa, assistance must be offered to the people, as this is their land, and their future. The Society exposes perpetrators of cruelty, enforces the animal protection act and promotes responsibility, care and compassion for all animals. As Durban's official pound, they provide shelter to strays and are committed to placing animals in caring homes. They also provide local underprivileged communities with low cost veterinary services. This SPCA is heavily reliant upon volunteers: from walking dogs and collecting pet food to assisting in their bookshop, fundraising and cleaning kennels. The Emma Animal Rescue Society (TEARS) is based in Fish Hoek, South Africa and was formed as the suffering of animals in poorer communities in South Africa has reached horrific proportions; the SPCA and other Animal Welfare organisations are simply overwhelmed and cannot cope. TEARS is in the business of "hands-on, grass-roots upliftment. They aim to teach children to have compassion for animals as studies have shown that where traumatised or brutalised children are taught to care for something more helpless than themselves, the cycle of abuse can be broken. TEARS requires volunteers to assist with all types of animal jobs. Protection of Animals Welfare Society (PAWS) works to make Mauritius a better place for animals. Founded in July 1999 by a small group of animal lovers who were very troubled by the terrible condition of domestic and stray dogs and cats on the island. They were also distressed by the population's ignorance in matters of pet care, and the lack of aid provided when they sought help. Volunteers are required to assist with animal jobs veterinary work, fundraising, field work and education. The Colobus Trust is a conservation organisation working to promote the conservation, preservation and protection of primates - particularly the Angolan Colobus monkey and its habitat on the South Coast of Kenya. Other activities include forest protection and restoration, public awareness, community education and various aspects of primate welfare.
