Cape of Good Hope SPCA is the founding Society of the SPCA movement and animal welfare in South Africa. They strive to provide caring treatment and comfortable shelter, and to protect the rights of animals, birds, reptiles and the creatures of the ocean by actively promoting a love and respect for all. This SPCA runs an animal hospital and mobile clinic that operates in informal settlements around Cape Town. Their Inspectorate team handles over 700 cases per month. Volunteers helping the Inspectorate assist with their administration or making pre and post adoption home checks. The wildlife section cares for abandoned and ill wildlife, including tortoises, crows, goats, peacocks, geese, squirrels, etc. The Horse Care Unit has volunteers to assist with cleaning stables and general care of horses. The Education Unit educates school children about pet care, animal rights and the SPCA. The Education Officer visits schools throughout the Greater Cape Town area and gives tours of the SPCA to school children and these animal jobs are also assisted by volunteers. Living With Elephants Foundation (LWE) is dedicated to relieving conflict between the African Elephant and human populations in Botswana. They do this by identifying sources of conflict, developing strategies for resolution and offering educational programs which encourage a harmonious relationship between elephants and people. LWE believes that extensive participation and commitment by the communities is a requirement for success. They are currently looking for animal jobs volunteers to assist with elephant handling, environmental education, fundraising, art promotion, marketing, freelance writing and business management. The Mokolodi Nature Reserve, Gaborone, Botswana is a nationally recognised educational, conservation and tourist facility. The Reserve is home to a diversity of flora and fauna and also houses one of two wild animal orphanages in Botswana. These and other wildlife and nature conservation projects on the Reserve are utilised in formulating a comprehensive environmental education programme for thousands of school children. Income from tourism and the sustainable use of wildlife and natural resources is used to subsidise the conservation projects and the environmental education programme. As a result of this intimate relationship with the village, the local community has a strong sense of ownership over the Reserve. Mokolodi has had many famous visitors and Alexander McCall Smith mentions the park in his book, Blue Shoes and Happiness. Volunteers provide a vital role at the Park, influencing all aspects of its operation from conservation to marketing, catering to maintenance. They are currently looking for volunteers to assist with marketing, IT, photography, journalism, animal sanctuary permaculture, ranger conservation, general labour & maintenance, catering, hosting and office assistant.
