Cameroon Wildlife Aid Fund (CWAF) aims to ensure that Cameroon's primates have a healthy future. Working with the government, local communities and other ecological groups around the world, CWAF aims to show people the amazing diversity of wildlife in Cameroon. CWAF operates two sites in Cameroon in co-operation with the Cameroon Ministry of Environment and Protection of the Nature: the Mefou National Park and the Mvog-betsi zoo. CWAF offers a limited number of self-funded volunteer posts to enthusiastic people aged over 21 with an interest in primate conservation and Africa. The maximum placement is 3 months and the minimum is one month. All their volunteers are based at the forest site where the accommodation is very basic, it is very hot and humid and they expect volunteers to work hard so it's not for the faint hearted!HELP Project, Congo The organisations’ founder started the project by rescuing chimpanzees from miserable conditions in the Pointe Noire zoo. They now care for chimpanzees displaced by poaching/illegal traffic, or seized by the Congolese authorities. They work to reintegrate the chimpanzees into their natural environment. They also work with the Congolese authorities in their fight against the poaching and encourage the local communities to conserve the natural environment. They welcome volunteers over the age of 20, to stay for a minimum period of 3 months. Work includes chimpanzee care, veterinary projects, mechanic work, plantations & gardening projects, construction, etc. Karoo Animal Protection Society (KAPS) is the only organisation providing a mobile welfare service for animals (dogs, cats and livestock) in the deprived areas of the Little Karoo in rural South Africa. KAPS offers free welfare services on a daily basis into areas of need. This is all done on a voluntary basis and there are no paid staff. They have an excellent success rate and have transformed the communities where they operate. They are grateful for all practical voluntary assistance. Animal Welfare Society of South Africa Stellenbosch aims towards a community where animals have a good quality of life and are kept as close to their natural environment as possible. This Society opposes the inhumane practise of companion animals being indefinitely caged without proper daily physical and mental stimulation. Their practical work involves neutering, confiscation of animals at risk and campaigning against indiscriminate breeders. Volunteers receive training from a team of animal behaviourists and assist in a practical way with animal jobs. Pandrillus, Drill Rehabilitation & Breeding Center, Nigeria works to prevent the extinction of drills through in situ captive breeding, research, education, habitat protection and future release.
