The list below gives direct links to animal welfare and rescue charities that offer a variety of different and interesting volunteering opportunities - there are an amazing variety of voluntary jobs available. Some cat breed rescue organisations require voluntary assistance, particularly with fostering. Many animal charities exist on limited funds and therefore voluntary workers are much needed and appreciated. The Cat and Rabbit Rescue Centre (CRRC) is located in rural Sidlesham, an ideal location for their long term residents who enjoy total freedom of the whole site. Cat Action Trust The Original Cat Action Trust, the pioneer society for ferals, was founded in 1977 to help the feral cat. Feral cats are domestic cats living wild, either because they and their descendants have strayed from home or more commonly because they are unwanted and have been abandoned. Colchester Cat Rescue is an independent local cat rescue charity covering Colchester and the surrounding area. Crescent Cat Rescue is a small cat rescue centre in Essex that has been caring for cats for over 20 years. The Cats Protection (CP) was formed in 1927, Cats Protection (CP) has grown to become the UK's leading feline welfare charity. They now care for and find new homes for around 60,000 cats and kittens every year, through a network of 29 Adoption Centres and 260 voluntary-run Branches. They also provide an array of cat care information and promote the benefits of neutering for a happier pet and distribute education packs to a third of schools in the UK. Volunteers required. The Cats Protection, North London Branch requires particular voluntary assistance with socialising, grooming, cuddling and fostering cats. The Destitute Animal Shelter, Bolton has a non-destruction policy and are committed to reducing the unwanted dog and cat problem in Bolton by neutering every animal they re-home. They deal with over 2,000 animals per year, either reuniting them with their owners or finding them new homes. Volunteer assistance required. The Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home is Edinburgh’s oldest Animal Welfare organisation, founded in 1883 by some citizens whose love of animals motivated them to take action to alleviate the plight of strays roaming the streets of the city at that time.
