Module  1

Canine Welfare & Health

The first module of this dog care behaviour course explores what to include as part of regular daily and weekly health check routines and how to observe and record this information.

This module includes information on general signs of ill health & parasites and common canine diseases including: Agents of disease; disease transmission; vectors; common health problems: parasites, abscess, fungal, viral, bacterial protozoan diseases; environmental & genetic disease as well as vaccinations and disease prevention.

Module 2

Nutrition 

This dog care behaviour course module is all about nutrition for dogs. Learn about different canine foods and their nutritional value for dogs. 

Learn about the different nutrient groups including: Water; Proteins; Carbohydrates: mono & disaccharides, polysaccharides; Lipids: saturated, unsaturated; Minerals; Vitamins; Fibre; presence in foodstuffs 

Learn about the function of each nutrient type including: Growth & repair; energy; respiration; insulation; protection; cell structure; skeletal tissue; digestive processes; blood; body heat; neural functioning 

This module includes information about specific nutrients including: Essential amino acids, essential fatty acids, salts, zinc, water, calcium and phosphorous.


Module 3

Dog Psychology

Learning the basics of dog psychology will help you to understand things from a dogs point of view.

This module will give you an understanding of how dogs think and learn and also includes information about canine body language.

This module includes information about canine body language & behavioural signs of emotions 

Learn how to identify signs of common behavioural issues and how to apply solutions to manage such behaviour successfully.


Module 4

Transportation, Handling and Restraint

Learn how to effectively restrain, handle, carry and transport dogs in a humane way to ensure minimum stress for the dog and reduced risk of bite for the carer. 

This module includes information on how to understand the responsibilities involved with transporting companion animals. 


Module 5

Exercise and Grooming 

Regular exercise is crucial for dogs. This module explores this subject along with environmental enrichment for dogs.

Dog grooming is an essential part of canine health and welfare and the basics of dog grooming are included in this module. 


Module 6

Aggression, Stress reduction and bite avoidance 

Learn about canine body language, behaviour and psychology and how these link into stress reduction.

Learn about what causes canine aggression as well as how aggressive behaviour is different in various breeds of dogs.

Learn how to implement precautions and safety measures as part of a routine when dealing with aggressive dogs as a part of bite avoidance.
