This two-module course aims to provide an understanding of birds of prey (raptors) in wild and captive situations. The course will enable the student to gain knowledge of different species, behaviour, and welfare concerns. Highlighting the importance of welfare concerns and how to attend to the welfare needs of a beautiful and otherwise wild species, in captivity.

This course is relevant for those with some knowledge about birds of prey or for those willing to broaden their expertise in understanding the nature of majestic raptors. We are aware of birds of prey through natural history programmes or those of us lucky enough to observe species such as peregrine falcons soaring above the trees in the wild.

The course is aimed at those with an interest in wild birds of prey and conservation or those who may have contact with raptors in captivity. The target of the course is to offer a rounded understanding of the improved welfare of birds of prey in captivity, remaining sympathetic to the

Five Welfare Freedoms of raptor birds. The course provides knowledge of the types of raptors surrounding us in the wild and how they behave according to their habitat, prey, and hunting strategies. The learner will gain knowledge of the legalities surrounding birds of prey in the wild and in captivity.

Learn how we can promote raptor welfare successfully for future generations to remain and to prevent loss of species in their natural habitats of the wild.
