This Level 3 Award is an Ofqual regulated qualification and enables learners the skills and knowledge to practise under the Animal Welfare Regulations (Licensing of activity Involving Animals in England) 2018.
Learners will study and learn about core animal welfare areas, including animal care, legislation, and facility inspection.
Students who complete this qualification will then be able to apply for related roles in animal welfare at local councils, charities, and animal shelters.
Learners will know the legal requirements relevant to the sector and understand the correct welfare of animals in line with legislation. They will understand the different roles and responsibilities under legislation. Learners will know correct accommodation sizes and requirements for companion animals.
Learners will understand how to provide advice regarding animal welfare and accommodation improvements. They will know how to formulate and check written policies and procedures. They will understand how to assess appropriate knowledge within animal care sites. They will know the process for the correct supervision of staff and understand appropriate training programmes required by staff.
To meet the Defra Statutory Guidance for Local Authorities amendments 01/02/22, learners will be required to carry out practical training and provide evidence of this as part of the course. This will be undertaken at a workplace or a venue of your choice.
