Course Summary

 

This Level 3 Certificate in Dog Grooming and Introduction to Styling is aimed at learners who wish to gain the skills and knowledge to become a qualified Dog Groomer.

Learners will study how to groom, prepare, style, cut and finish a selection of dogs with various style of coats.

This is an Ofqual regulated qualification that has been developed by the awarding organization iPET Network. This course meets the DEFRA higher standard licence requirements and provides 15 days of practical hands-on training at a dog grooming school in Winsford, Cheshire.

Learners will understand the roles and responsibilities of a professional dog groomer and will be able to apply for roles within the canine sector.

Unit 1

Health and Safety in a Dog Grooming Environment

The aim of this unit is to provide the knowledge, skills and understanding of the importance of Health and Safety demonstrating awareness of hazards, risks and Biosecurity complying with relevant legislation and codes of practice fundamental to the grooming environment. To ensure safe working practices of groomers and dogs in their care to the highest welfare standards.

Unit 2

Promote the Welfare of Dogs conforming with Relevant Legislation

The aim of this unit is to provide the knowledge, skills and understanding on how to promote and maintain the health and welfare of animals following health and safety and Animal Welfare requirements. To recognise welfare issues and be able to take specific measures to make adjustments to the environmental conditions.

Unit 3

Assess and Plan Dog Grooming Styles and Maintenance of Equipment

The aim of this unit is to provide knowledge, understanding and skills to assess, plan and record dog grooming styles according to breed standard styling or client requirements. Candidates will demonstrate the importance of maintaining equipment and safe working practices in line with current Health and Safety legislation, Animal Welfare legislation and environmental good practice.

Unit 4

Health Checking, Handling and Canine Behaviour

The aim of this unit is to provide the knowledge, skills and understanding required to care for dogs in a grooming environment. To be able to carry out health checks and identify anatomical points on a dog, know and understand canine behaviour and be able to adapt handling to different dogs.

Unit 5

Prepare, Style and Finish a Selection of Dog Breeds

The aim of this unit is to provide knowledge, understanding and skills required to prepare, style and finish a range of dog breeds using various techniques according to breed pattern or client requirements.
