This comprehensive online theory Level 3 Ofqual regulated Feline Qualification is suitable for those working with cats or pet owners wanting to know more about cat care. This feline qualification is suitable for cattery staff, owners and managers to achieve the Higher Standard star rating in line with updated Legislation – The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018.


The knowledge gained from this feline qualification will broaden career options for working with cats and is an ideal foundation for care, behaviour and welfare careers with cats as well as for those wanting to set up their own boarding catteries.

This feline qualification is of value for careers working with cats in a variety of roles including at animal welfare charities, the pet care sector, boarding catteries and at a veterinary practice.

Level 3 Diploma Feline Care Behaviour and Welfare

Unit  (292 GLH)

Unit 1

Care of Felines in Catteries (40 GLH)

This unit will assist students to develop underpinning knowledge of the care and welfare of felines in catteries.  It includes information on health checking,  methods of disease prevention & control and effective ways to provide environmental enrichment and mental stimulation. This unit also covers administering preventative and prescriptive medications.

Unit 2

Feline Handling and Transportation (30 GLH)

Students will develop the underpinning knowledge on feline handling and transportation. Gain an understanding of the principles of safe handling and transport including the use of equipment and records. The importance of force-free handling and restraint of cats are included in this unit, as well as the use of correct PPE, and minimisation of stress during handling and restraint. Students will learn how to reduce feline stress during transport.

Unit 3

Feline Care (40 GLH)

It is essential to understand the correct care of cats when they are in your care. This unit includes grooming, first aid treatments and the care and welfare of felines at different life stages, and the importance of neutering. This unit also includes information about cat grooming techniques.

Unit 4

Feline Anatomy and Physiology (50 GLH)

This unit will equip students with underpinning knowledge covering the anatomy and physiology of felines. Develop your knowledge on nine body systems and assess why it is important to understand body systems when proving feline care.  This unit explores the many complex body processes and functions of the domestic cat including the digestive, circulatory, respiratory, skeletal and sensory systems.

Unit 5

Evolutionary Development of Felines (32 GLH)

This unit will equip students with underpinning knowledge on how felines have developed from an evolutionary perspective. Gain an understanding of natural feline social behaviours and feline breeds and traits, including the impact on behaviours.

Unit 6

Feline Behaviour & Psychology (40 GLH)

When working with cats it’s useful to have an understanding of feline behaviour and psychology.

In this unit, students will develop the underpinning knowledge to understand feline behaviour and psychology. Learn about communication behaviour in felines and how learning theory is used in training. Students will understand psychological and physiological factors that contribute to feline behaviour and the impact of the feline-human relationship on feline behaviour.

Unit 7

Feline Nutrition (30 GLH)

This unit will equip students with underpinning knowledge of the importance of nutrition in felines. Learn what the essential nutrients are and their functions to ensure the health and wellbeing of felines. The importance of nutrition at each life stage will also be explored, and the benefits of good nutrition and the impacts of poor nutrition will be analysed.

Unit 8

Legislation for Feline Law (30 GLH)

The final unit looks at the Animal Welfare Act and other related legislation specific to felines. This unit will equip students with underpinning knowledge of the use of legislation in feline care.
