Career Path to Working with Dogs and All Canine Courses

We have mapped out a training path with the canine courses we offer that will enable students to gain extensive knowledge and progress right up to Level 6.

Step 1

For those new to the subject, we suggest starting with the Level 2 Award in Canine Care and Behaviour, this is an Ofqual regulated qualification that consists of 2 units exploring natural canine behaviours and their purpose. This is an excellent introduction qualification to the subject of canine behaviour and it meets the Basic Standard Animal Activities Licensing (AAL) requirements. Alternatively, if you want to meet the Higher Standard AAL requirements, then we suggest the Ofqual regulated Level 3 Award in Canine Care, Behaviour and Welfare.

Step 2

The next course is the Level 3 Diploma in Canine Care Behaviour and Welfare. It is an Ofqual regulated qualification that consists of 7 units. This qualification will broaden career options for working with dogs. It is an ideal foundation for behaviour, training and welfare careers with dogs. 2 units in this course also feature in the Level 3 Award in Canine Care, Behaviour and Welfare and they do not need to be repeated if you have already completed the Level 3 Award qualification.

Step 3

Next we suggest the Level 4 Diploma in Canine Behaviour and Training Management. This Ofqual regulated qualification is for those wanting to work in the areas of canine psychology, behaviour and training. Successful completion of this course enables students to enrol on the Level 5 Dog Behaviour Practitioner course.

Step 4

The final step is the highly sought after Level 6 Diploma in Applied Canine Behaviour Management – this qualification is specifically for a careers working as a Canine Behaviourist. This Ofqual regulated qualification consists of 3 parts and is split into 30 theory units. This comprehensive qualification includes 10 intensive practical training and assessment days.

To enhance student learning, we now offer a private study/discussion Facebook group for those working on this qualification and additional informal study/training days are provided for these students.

The Dog Rescue Worker Certificate course Level 2 is the foundation course. After successful completion of this certificate course we would suggest progression to the Kennel Assistant Diploma course Level 3. If you wish to progress further you may want to think about our level 4 Diploma course, Kennel and Cattery Management or the Animal Shelter Management Level 4 Diploma course.

We Offer Canine Courses From Entry Level 2 Right up to Level 6 (Honours Degree Level)

Graduates who complete our Level 6 qualification, can apply for membership to the following highly sought after institutions:

  • Association of INTO Dogs – as a full member – Certified Canine Behaviourist
  • As a full member of INTO Dogs, you will have accredited animal behaviourist status with membership of The International Companion Animal Network (ICAN).
  • After successful completion of our courses, students are also eligible to join the Pet Professional Guild
  • All of these membership organisations support and endorse force-free training.
